Better Working Hours
Most collective agreements in the public labor market signed in 2020, have an agreement on changes made to the work arrangements and wage formation system in shift work.
The goal of the system changes is to promote better health and security of staff and increase their opportunities to integrate work and private life, so that shift work becomes more desirable. The changes are also intended to increase staffing stability for government and municipal institutions and Reykjavík City workplaces, reduce overtime as well as improve security and services to the public.
For guidance, the implementation process for better working hours is divided into steps. Since institutions and workplaces have very different roles, have diverse daily operations and a disparate composition of human resources, it is important that better working hours are configured in each local environment.
